Welcome to our weekly Friday Check-in for May 9th, 2025 ✅

If you are new to Soul Care, WELCOME!! We are so glad you are here. We have a weekly rhythm of checking in together on Fridays. We use Soul Care's Page, Person, Plan framework to create a weekly rhythm and prepare ourselves for Sabbath rest.

Here’s your invitation to pause and check in today. You might light a candle or get in a prayerful, comfortable posture and begin this time by taking a few deep breaths.

Let's begin with,

Page: An Invitation to Reflection

Today, read or listen to Luke 5:12-26 (MSG) three times.

One day in one of the villages there was a man covered with leprosy. When he saw Jesus he fell down before him in prayer and said, “If you want to, you can cleanse me.” Jesus put out his hand, touched him, and said, “I want to. Be clean.” Then and there his skin was smooth, the leprosy gone.

Jesus instructed him, “Don’t talk about this all over town. Just quietly present your healed self to the priest, along with the offering ordered by Moses. Your cleansed and obedient life, not your words, will bear witness to what I have done.” But the man couldn’t keep it to himself, and the word got out. Soon a large crowd of people had gathered to listen and be healed of their sicknesses. As often as possible Jesus withdrew to out-of-the-way places for prayer.

One day as he was teaching, Pharisees and religion teachers were sitting around. They had come from nearly every village in Galilee and Judea, even as far away as Jerusalem, to be there. The healing power of God was on him.

Some men arrived carrying a paraplegic on a stretcher. They were looking for a way to get into the house and set him before Jesus. When they couldn’t find a way in because of the crowd, they went up on the roof, removed some tiles, and let him down in the middle of everyone, right in front of Jesus. Impressed by their bold belief, he said, “Friend, I forgive your sins.”

That set the religion scholars and Pharisees buzzing. “Who does he think he is? That’s blasphemous talk! God and only God can forgive sins.”

Jesus knew exactly what they were thinking and said, “Why all this gossipy whispering? Which is simpler: to say ‘I forgive your sins,’ or to say ‘Get up and start walking’? Well, just so it’s clear that I’m the Son of Man and authorized to do either, or both. . . .” He now spoke directly to the paraplegic: “Get up. Take your bedroll and go home.” Without a moment’s hesitation, he did it—got up, took his blanket, and left for home, giving glory to God all the way. The people rubbed their eyes, stunned, and then also gave glory to God. Awestruck, they said, “We’ve never seen anything like that!”

Spend a few minutes journaling in response to this passage:
  • What stands out to you most? Is there a particular word or phrase?
  • As you read through it a second time… ask God, “to what area of my life does that particular word or phrase connect?”
  • And as you read a third time, be asking God, “Is there an invitation for me?” Is there a response of some kind that God is inviting you into?
Next up is,
Person: An Invitation to Connection

A life of service is never lived in isolation; it unfolds within a web of relationships—among family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, faith communities, and the broader local and extended community.

Have you ever asked yourself the question: How can I best serve others?
Jesus offers us a powerful example in today’s reading: “As often as possible, Jesus withdrew to out-of-the-way places for prayer.” He stepped back… found solitude… spent time alone in prayer. How often do you take time to withdraw and be alone with God? What might you need to be your best - to be ready, available, and present - in service to your family, friends, and community?

Finally we have,
Plan: An Invitation to Intention

To live a life of service, we must care with intention for the vessel that carries us, our bodies, minds, and spirits. Rest, nourishment, emotional balance, and spiritual grounding aren’t luxuries; they’re essential preparation for showing up fully for others. When we honor our own needs, we are better equipped to serve with compassion and resilience. How can you be intentional in preparing for a life of service?

Take five minutes right now to really check in with yourself.

Ask: Have I rested enough? Eaten well? Made space for prayer or reflection? Set necessary boundaries? What is my body trying to tell me?

Please be gentle with yourself in this check in - simply become aware without resorting to criticism or judgement. Write down one small, do-able action you can take this week to support your wellbeing. To create accountability, share your one small action with a trusted person and ask them to pray for you in this one small act.

Thanks for checking in today.

Have a blessed Friday,

Team Soul Care
