Welcome to our weekly Friday Check-in for June 6th, 2025 ✅

If you are new to Soul Care, WELCOME!! We are so glad you are here. We have a weekly rhythm of checking in together on Fridays. We use Soul Care's Page, Person, Plan framework to create a weekly rhythm and prepare ourselves for Sabbath rest.

Let’s check in - how are you doing? How does your body feel right now? What was significant within the month of May? What do you need as we start a new month? What do you hope June holds for you?

If you are seeking space to reflect more deeply, rest, renewal, community + solitude, you’re invited to join us for the Semi-Silent Retreat TOMORROW! Check your time zone and we hope to see you there!

Let's begin with,

Page: An Invitation to Reflection

Today, read Luke 10:38-42 NRSVA three times:

Now as they went on their way, he entered a certain village where a woman named Martha welcomed him. She had a sister named Mary, who sat at Jesus’s feet and listened to what he was saying. But Martha was distracted by her many tasks, so she came to him and asked, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to do all the work by myself? Tell her, then, to help me.” But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things, but few things are needed—indeed only one. Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her.”
Spend a few minutes journaling in response to this passage:

  • What stands out to you most? Is there a particular word or phrase?
  • As you read through it a second time… ask God, “to what area of my life does that particular word or phrase connect?”
  • And as you read a third time, be asking God, “Is there an invitation for me?” Is there a response of some kind that God is inviting you into?

Next up is,
Person: An Invitation to Connection

Prayerfully consider today’s passage in regard to your relationships:

  • When have you been most distracted lately? What leads you to distraction?
  • What worries have you been returning to?
  • What challenges have you faced, and what has been an obstacle, in building deep, meaningful connections and cultivating intimacy in your most important relationships?

“True intimacy is a sacred experience. It never exposes its secret trust and belonging to the voyeuristic eye of a neon culture. Real intimacy is of the soul, and the soul is reserved.”  - John O’Donohue

When are you more caught up in appearances, productivity, and expectation, which can easily undermine true intimacy? When have you been fully present, receptive, and unhurried? What helps you to get into this posture, like Mary at Jesus’ feet?

It’s worth noting that “sitting at Jesus’ feet” is less about Mary’s physical posture and more about her role as a disciple, a radical and countercultural position for a woman in the first century. Like Paul who “sat at the feet of Gamaliel” (Acts 22:3), Mary is receiving teaching from a rabbi, breaking social norms. With this in mind, Jesus’ words to Martha are not a rebuke of service but an invitation into that same discipleship—elevating both women beyond traditional roles, and reminding them that their worth lies not in what they do for Him, but in their presence with Him.

Finally we have,
Plan: An Invitation to Intention

Pause now to listen and simply BE with God’s Spirit in silence for at least 2 more minutes. If it helps to imagine being at Jesus’ feet as a disciple, listening to his every word, close your eyes and use your imagination to place yourself in Jesus’ presence and receive all he has to offer you today. What might the teacher want to teach you today?

End this time of reflection and prayer by re-imagining Jesus’ affirming words:

This inward orientation—this “better part”—is a spiritual treasure that endures beyond worldly concerns, demands, or obligations. Your stillness, listening, and communing with me “will not be taken away from” you.

Stay here as long as you need...

Thanks for checking in today - Blessings!
