Welcome to our weekly Friday Check-in for May 23rd, 2025 ✅

If you are new to Soul Care, WELCOME!! We are so glad you are here. We have a weekly rhythm of checking in together on Fridays. We use Soul Care's Page, Person, Plan framework to create a weekly rhythm and prepare ourselves for Sabbath rest.

To begin, practice a few minutes of silence and stillness before moving through the three invitations below.

Let's begin with,

Page: An Invitation to Reflection

Today, read or listen to Luke 8:40-56 three times:

Now when Jesus returned, the crowd welcomed him, for they were all waiting for him. Just then there came a man named Jairus, a leader of the synagogue. He fell at Jesus’ feet and begged him to come to his house, for he had an only daughter, about twelve years old, who was dying.
As he went, the crowds pressed in on him. Now there was a woman who had been suffering from hemorrhages for twelve years; and though she had spent all she had on physicians, no one could cure her. She came up behind him and touched the fringe of his clothes, and immediately her hemorrhage stopped. Then Jesus asked, ‘Who touched me?’ When all denied it, Peter said, ‘Master, the crowds surround you and press in on you.’ But Jesus said, ‘Someone touched me; for I noticed that power had gone out from me.’ When the woman saw that she could not remain hidden, she came trembling; and falling down before him, she declared in the presence of all the people why she had touched him, and how she had been immediately healed. He said to her, ‘Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace.’
While he was still speaking, someone came from the leader’s house to say, ‘Your daughter is dead; do not trouble the teacher any longer.’ When Jesus heard this, he replied, ‘Do not fear. Only believe, and she will be saved.’ When he came to the house, he did not allow anyone to enter with him, except Peter, John, and James, and the child’s father and mother. They were all weeping and wailing for her; but he said, ‘Do not weep; for she is not dead but sleeping.’ And they laughed at him, knowing that she was dead. But he took her by the hand and called out, ‘Child, get up!’ Her spirit returned, and she got up at once. Then he directed them to give her something to eat. Her parents were astounded; but he ordered them to tell no one what had happened.
Spend a few minutes journaling in response to this passage:

  • What stands out to you most? Is there a particular word or phrase?
  • As you read through it a second time… ask God, “to what area of my life does that particular word or phrase connect?”
  • And as you read a third time, be asking God, “Is there an invitation for me?” Is there a response of some kind that God is inviting you into?

Next up is,
Person: An Invitation to Connection

Throughout the month of May, we are continuing to meditate on the theme ”a life of service” and John 13:1-17.

As we continue to learn from Jesus’ life of service as he brings healing and restores life throughout the gospel of Luke, pause for a moment and think of someone you know who is desperately seeking healing... someone who might deeply desire and need to experience new life, rebirth, restoration... someone who is overwhelmed with grief and loss...

Take the next few minutes to intercede on their behalf.

It may seem small, but interceding for someone is a deeply spiritual act of service, especially when they’re struggling.

Finally we have,
Plan: An Invitation to Intention

Living a life of service also includes how we show up online...

  • Which apps or digital habits leave you feeling drained or lifeless?
  • Which leave you feeling alive and nourished?
  • What’s one small boundary you can put in place this week to protect your peace?

How might you be invited to scroll less and take control over your social media experience and actively choose the content you consume, rather than letting algorithms and platforms dictate your feed.... so you can give more and live with intention?

Finally, spend as much time in silent prayer as you need, listening for God’s voice.

Closing prayer:

Dear Jesus,

Thank You for showing me what true love and service look like.Teach me to walk in humility, to serve with joy, and to love others the way You love me. Help me follow Your example and trust your Spirit is guiding me in all I do.

Make my heart more like Yours—gentle, obedient, and full of grace.

Amen.

Thanks for checking in today - Blessings!
